Superb Scandinavian style chalets sleeping six

Melbury and Hardy are two of four Scandinavian style timber framed chalets.

Melbury and Hardy chalet at Stour Cross Farm are situated on a working dairy farm. We milk approx 140 black and white Freisian Holstein cows twice daily. During the summer months most of the calves are born of which a third are Freisian. These are hand reared by myself and often get spoilt with affection. They become very friendly and don't mind being groomed or cuddled. This seems to set them up right when they join the herd. The cows are housed in a barn over the winter and turned out to grass in spring until November. Melbury looks out on some of the fields and guests are delighted when they wake up in the mornings, pull back the curtains and see all the girls grazing. Some guests have never seen cows before let alone stand within 2 ft of them. Don't worry, there is a fence and although they are very inquisitive they are quite harmless.

We are happy for any visitors to watch the milking in the afternoons. It is a fasinating process to watch.

North Dorset Location: Melbury chalet at Stour Cross Farm sits on top of a hill just outside West Stour village.

It is centrally placed for many attractions which can be reached easily by car. The village itself is very friendly and hosts many fun fund raising events. The local free house pub boasts excellent cuisine and fine ales.

Within the grounds of Melbury and Hardy are two other chalets. Duncliffe and Wessex. All sleeping six with their own parking and surrounded by Blue Spruce Fir trees.

NEW FOR 2013. Our new games room is available for our guests.. It consists of a table tennis table, Table football, large connect 4 and air hockey. For the little ones they can play on the car mat with a selection of cars.

We also have an upstairs room with a coin operated pool table and large T.V with X box.

Hardy Chalet is a Scandinavian style chalet situated on a working dairy farm just 1 mile from the village of West Stour, North Dorset. Hardy has recently been refurbished and is the perfect place to stay whilst exploring our beautiful county. Hardy has three bedrooms, two double and one twin. The double downstairs has an en-suite wetroom whilst the master bedroom has en-suite bathroom and own balcony. The twin room has an en-suite shower room. The lounge and kitchen/diner are open plan and have all mod cons, including dishwasher, washing machine and microwave. The leather reclining sofa's allow you to relax after a tiring day sight seeing. Hardy is a non smoking property and unfortunately cannot accept pets. The views surrounding the chalet are just astounding and from the master bedroom on a clear day King Alfred's tower can be seen in the distance. Parking allows for three cars and the tarmac area down one side of the chalet allows for easy access to the back of the chalet.

Stour Cross Farm is located outside the small village of West Stour. We run a dairy herd of approx 150 Friesian cows alongside four Scandinavian style self catering chalets. Approx 200yds from A30 and 15 min. from A303. Surrounded by pretty villages and country lanes, some with pubs and restaurants. West Stour has it's own pub which can be easily reached on foot serving real home cooked food. Shaftesbury, the Saxon hilltop town, is only 10 mins drive. It features the famous cobbled Gold Hill (Hovis advert) and quaint family run shops. Stourhead, an N.T attraction with it's beautiful house, gardens and lakes is a short driving distance. Family attractions include Monkey World, Bovington Tank Museum, Longleat and Fleet Air Arm Museum. We are also only an hours drive from the Jurassic coast. Other local activities range from Golf, Fishing and Horse Riding. Stour Cross Farm boasts spectacular views across the Blackmore Vale, Somerset and Wiltshire from which endless walks can be enjoyed.

Other Activities: badger watching, quad riding, soft play area for younger children,

Golf: Moors Valley is the ideal place to play golf.

Payment is usually accepted in the quoted currency (British Pound) unless the currency and the amount is specifically agreed in advance with the owner / advertiser.

Notes

  • When booking weekly or short holidays £50 deposit is required.
    If the holiday falls inside 4 weeks of arrival then the whole amount is due.
    Payments can be made by cheque or BACS, credit or debit card. There is a surcharge for card payments.
    Unfortunately deposits cannot be refunded.
    When the balance or full amounts have been paid and a cancellation is made the owner will try to rebook the dates in question and only then if sucessful may make a refund but will retain £50 for administration.
    Please make sure you take out holiday insurance to cover these circumstances.
  • A minimum of 2 nights can be taken at certain times of the year. The cost per night will work out more expensive per night than other short breaks. Please email or phone for prices.
  • Christmas and New Year breaks can start on any date. I don't mind taking a short booking for the New Year period but would prefer to take a week booking for Christmas.

  • The ground floor consists of a double bedroom with open hanging rail and shelves which is situated under the stair well. The bedroom would suit less able guests. Upstairs has a master double bedroom with own balcony and a twin room. The sloping ceilings in both bedrooms are clad in pine and have open hanging rails and wooden slated shelves.
