The Algarve is one of the top holiday destinations in Europe. Lagos town itself is just ten minutes stroll through the pretty marina, over the swing bridge and you are there. The town is a working town, not a resort as such. It is a lovely place to spend time with it's pretty, cobbled streets, small squares and a great choice of places for coffee, snacks and fabulous food across a wide price range. Lagos, situated towards the south western side of the Algarve, is the third largest town in the Algarve and steeped in history, dating back to the Moorish invasion and once a very important fishing port. The old part of the town, where the original walls of the town remain, has been beautifully restored with its cobbled streets and flower decked squares. Lagos was the very first slave market in Europe. One of the striking features on entering the town is its beautiful riverside avenue lined with exotic trees & plants. 2 International golf courses Palmares and BoaVista are a 5 min drive away.
