St Mawes is a small, vibrant and cosmopolitan village on the sea near Falmouth. Set at the place where sea meets river - it has a busy sailing community and there is lots to do on the water (sailing, fishing, wind surfing). Also, some lovely shops and excellent restaurants. There are 2 beaches in St Mawes and nearby there are others. There are beautiful inland and coastal walks. You can buy fresh fish on the quay or take the foot ferry across to Falmouth in 20 minutes.
The shops are a lovely mix, selling paintings, designer clothes, sailing fare, sweeties and antiques - some rather smart, all interesting. There is large carpark in the centre, (but discreetly tucked away) which makes up for the fact that the tiny streets are virtually impossible for cars.
St Mawes is very enjoyable at all times of year, but in the winter it has a lovely peaceful old fashioned charm. A lovely place to come and relax.
Other Activities: Eden Project, Maritime Museum, Tate Gallery St Ives
Golf: There are lots of good Golf courses in Cornwall, many with magnificent sea views. The nearest to St Mawes is at Falmouth or Truro.
