Western Asturias is now opening up due in part to the new Cantabrican Motorway along the beautiful green Northern Coast. The locals are friendly and the food hearty and abundant. The protected coastline is unspoiled. The beaches along this rugged beautiful coast range from well-kept sandy beaches with lifeguards, snack bars and parking to deserted pebble and sandy beaches that are always well worth the effort it takes to get to them. Asturias is known for its surf and there are a number of surf schools and rental outfits that offer everything you might need to surf. The ocean temperatures range from 57F or 14C in the winter to 73F or 23C in the summer. Bracing but fun. Most of our guests spend a lot of time on the beach in the summer since the temperatures are always moderate, rarely hot. The mountains join the sea in Asturias and there are many natural parks and walking trails. Somiedo Natural Park is much closer than Picos de Europa, less visited and just as beautiful boasting Leonid Vultures and Brown Bears. Thatched mountain cottages add a magical effect to the landscape. Muniellos is a Biosphere Reserve with ancient oaks which requires advance reservations. Caves with prehistoric art are open to visit April - Sept. We are happy to assist with reservations for Muniellos and the caves .
